Reduce overheating and improve battery backup time on Fedora 18 on Lenovo Ideapad Z580

Install Bumblebee with Nvidia driver on Fedora 18. This gives a few benefits, where you reduce overheating and get improved battery backup time. You also get to use the Nvidia Optimus graphics driver with optirun. Do the following steps:

# ln -s /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf /usr/lib/modprobe.d/ <enter>
# echo "blacklist nouveau" >> /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf <enter>
# dracut /boot/initramfs-$(uname -r).img $(uname -r) <enter>
# yum --nogpgcheck install http://install.linux.ncsu.edu/pub/yum/itecs/public/bumblebee/fedora18/noarch/bumblebee-release-1.0-1.noarch.rpm <enter>
# yum install acpi-handle-hack bbswitch bumblebee primus VirtualGL <enter>

# yum --nogpgcheck install http://install.linux.ncsu.edu/pub/yum/itecs/public/bumblebee-nonfree/fedora18/noarch/bumblebee-nonfree-release-1.0-1.noarch.rpm <enter>
# yum install bumblebee-nvidia <enter>

You can also use the direct commands below:
# yum -y install http://install.linux.ncsu.edu/pub/yum/itecs/public/bumblebee/fedora18/x86_64/acpi-handle-hack-0.0.2-1.fc18.x86_64.rpm <enter>
# yum -y install http://install.linux.ncsu.edu/pub/yum/itecs/public/bumblebee/fedora18/x86_64/bbswitch-0.5.0-1.fc18.x86_64.rpm <enter>
# yum -y install http://install.linux.ncsu.edu/pub/yum/itecs/public/bumblebee/fedora18/x86_64/bumblebee-3.0.1-2.fc18.x86_64.rpm <enter>
# yum -y install http://install.linux.ncsu.edu/pub/yum/itecs/public/bumblebee/fedora18/x86_64/primus-0.0.12112012-8.fc18.x86_64.rpm <enter>
# yum install VirtualGL <enter>

System temperatures now remain within the 50 degrees celsius threshold, and battery backup lasts approximately 5 hours. You also get to use the Nvidia Optimus technology using optirun.
